MUMA ("Mujer Maíz" / Corn Woman)—a creation by Ixel Orozco—is a large-scale performance brought to life by a three-meter-tall puppet animated by three puppeteers. Lasting 34 minutes, the work silently narrates the life cycle of the corn seed—from germination to its transformation into food and ritual symbol—accompanied by electro-organic music that envelops the scene in a poetic, sensory atmosphere.
The show is conceived as a biocultural project that revives the cosmogony and traditions surrounding corn, integrating the voices of the "milpa" (cornfield), the ear of corn, "nixtamal" (nixtamalized corn), and the earth, just as they appear in the original text. Through metaphors involving seasons, wildlife, and calendars, the piece bridges rural cultural identity and the contemporary urban context, offering a collaborative experience that celebrates memory, spirituality, and the enduring significance of corn as the root of community life.
